Spring is here, which means it’s time to get the kids out of the house!  Here are some fun spring events especially for kids!  And yes, you parents can come too.  Time to go play! 

  1. Dozer Days - Where Kids Drive! - March 18 & 19, 2017 – State Fair Park

Dozer Days is a fantastic weekend full of fun for the whole family. Kids actually get to ride and operate real dozers, excavators, cranes, articulated haulers and much more! Dozer Days also offers police and fire department experiences, pipe crawls, tire crawls and tractor ride fun for all ages. Sponsored by The Central Washington Home Builders Association

  1. Skippyjon Jones - Snow What - March 28 & 29 2017 - The Capitol Theatre Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the bravest of them all? Skippyjon Jones the Siamese cat who thinks he's a Chihuahua of course! While his sisters listen to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Skippy heads off for the REAL adventure as his alter ego Skippito Friskito. With the help of his friends the Seven Chimichangos, Skippyjon must rescue the beautiful princess Nieve Qué (Snow What), battle the evil dragon and defeat the Bruja.

From bus rules to band-aids, carpools to cookies, Junie B. and friends deliver the definitive word on surviving and thriving in style. With a jillion tips, tricks and trip-ups, Junie B. shares her hard-won expertise and shows us all how school is sometimes scary, sometimes super-fun, and ALWAYS something to sing about! An all-new musical adventure based on Barbara Park's popular book. Recommended for Grades K through 5th.

  1. Arbor Festival - Mid-April - Yakima Area Arboretum

Celebrate our state and national Arbor Days, spring, conservation, and natural science. This celebration of spring attracts thousands to Yakima every year. It's the 14th Annual Arbor Festival put on by the Yakima Area Arboretum. More than 40 stations set up hands-on learning activities for kids and their parents. The Arbor Festival is one of the largest events of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. This is a FREE family community event, with lots of hands-on learning opportunities, crafts, and displays.

  1. The Annual Earth Day Walk. Saturday, April 22 - Cowiche Canyon

Enjoy a beautiful walk through the Cowiche Canyon while you learn about this important ecosystem! There will be talks and demonstrations stationed along the trail, and native plants and spring flowers will be labeled as well. CCC Volunteers will be on hand to help guide participants to the stations. Walkers should wear sturdy shoes and outdoor clothes and be prepared for any weather. Families with children are encouraged to attend this fun, FREE event!

  1. Kids Fish-In - April 22th, 2017 - Yakima Greenway Sarg Hubbard Park

Have a great first-time fishing experience where your child will come home with a new rod, reel, and t-shirt! And their first fish is even cleaned and bagged in ice for you! Space is limited to the first 1000 signed up, so get registered today!

  1. Parade of Gems - April 22 -23, 2017 - State Fair Park

See real meteorites and other lapidary art demonstrations! There are also door prizes, a silent auction, children's activities, grab bags, Wheel of Fortune, raffles, food, and lots of retailers will have jewelry, gems and minerals for sale.

Adults $3.50; Students $2.00;  Children under 12 free with adult admission

Free parking.

  1. Bill’s Berry Farm Educational Farm Tours - Spring Educational Tours

Enjoy the Signs of Spring Tour, where children learn about the seasons, blooms, bees and pollination, and also get hands-on experience planting a seed to take home!  There are educational farm tours for all ages: from preschoolers to senior citizen groups. Groups are free to stay after the tour to play on the playground or use the picnic table area.

  1. Junior Gap to Gap 2017 Hawaiian Style - June 3rd, 2017 - Yakima Greenway

A special version of Yakima’s iconic race, but just for the kids!  Run, bike, steeple chase, kayak and scramble through the obstacle course as fast as you can!
