Cinco de Mayo Celebrations!

Cinco de Mayo Celebrations!

This annual celebration of Mexican culture, cuisine, dance and music brings together people from all over the state, which draws over 25,000 visitors throughout the two day event.  The streets of Downtown Yakima and Sunnyside are filled with Mexican food vendors, live mariachi music and festively dressed dancers. This is a unique cultural experience that has grown from a commemoration of the smaller Mexican Army's victory over the much larger, well trained French forces at the Battle of Puebla (May 5, 1862), to a total celebration of Mexican culture. After a presidential proclamation in 2005, people in the USA now observe Cinco de Mayo, schools around the country educate students about the historical significance, and cultural celebrations are planned throughout the country. Come join the celebration of Cinco de Mayo in the Yakima Valley this weekend!
