Time to Hit the Slopes!

Time to Hit the Slopes!

White Pass Ski Area is opening Wednesday!

It may be a little later than everyone would like, due to a couple of inconvenient road washouts, but better late than never!  Highway 12 is finally reopening to through traffic on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m., which means everyone can finally get up to all the snow they’ve been getting! The road still isn’t totally fixed, so a traffic light will direct you through a single lane near the repaired areas on both sides of the pass, so expect some minor delays.  But any wait will be worth it, because there’s a snow depth of 61” at the base and 83” at the summit, so it’s going to be Happy Holiday for skiers and snowboarders!

Haven’t been to White Pass before?  It’s less than an hour from Yakima, and they have 1,402 acres and 8 ski lifts of family-friendly terrain to explore!  They have a base area lodge, with dining options and a bar, as well as the ski-in Highcamp Lodge, which boasts epic views of Mt. Rainier!  Not into downhill skiing? Enjoy the 18 kilometers of Nordic Trails that circle Leach Lake!

Still need to learn how to ski or board?  There’s never been a better time than now, especially if you take advantage of their BOGO Learn to Ski Special!  They’ve also got lessons for all ages and abilities, and if you don’t have the gear, no problem, they’ve got you covered with ski and snowboard gear rentals! And there’s also daycare available for the youngest members of the family (2 - 6 year olds), along with the Pee Wee Skee program, which gives your child one hour of snow play and an introduction to skiing!

And there’s no need to pack a lunch with all the dining options up there! They’ve got cafeteria style breakfast and lunch items throughout the day, along with made-to-order grill selections. Then after a long day of skiing, order off their delightful dinner menu, with specialties like cedar plank salmon, prime rib or other bistro fare, there are choices for every palette.  Hungry and find yourself at the High Camp Lodge? Drop in for their famous all-day Waffle Bar!

Don’t want to make the drive back to town? Make a plan to stay at the White Pass Village Inn, located directly across the street from the main lodge. Aprés Ski, relax in the heated pool and enjoy the view of the hill!

And don’t forget to Save the Date! White Pass is celebrating their 30th Annual White Pass Winter Carnival on March 5 & 6, 2016. The whole family will enjoy the snow castle at the High Camp, live music, fireworks, Kids’ Carnival, snow sports competitions and poker run for kids and adults!

The holidays can’t get much better when there is skiing in the forecast!
