The Yakima Valley has the perfect climate for running pretty much anytime of year. And there’s all different kinds of running, no matter what your skill level.How about a USATF certified 26.2 marathon through the Yakima River Canyon? Or family-friendly color bombing run?  Or maybe a cross-country run through the vineyard? Yakima River Canyon Marathon

DATE: April 2nd 2016

LOCATION: Yakima River Canyon

You can’t beat the Yakima River Canyon Marathon for a unique long-distance running experience. This USATF (#WA12042MN) certified event is the standard marathon distance of 26.2 miles, and new this year is the addition of a half marathon. If you’re going to be running nearly thirty miles, you might as well enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Yakima River Canyon!


Run for Your Life 5K

DATE: April 16, 2016 

LOCATION: Downtown Yakima

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) brings the community together to promote healthy lifestyles, and they donate all the proceeds of this annual event to a local community organization. This year, proceeds will be donated to Children’s Wishes & Dreams, a completely volunteer, non-profit organization that has granted over 190 wishes. These wishes were supported solely by donations from individuals, families, and community businesses.


Zillah Fun Run
DATE: May 14, 2016

LOCATION: Downtown Zillah

This unique run is just a small part of the celebration during Zillah Community Days! Featuring both a 5K (run or walk) and a 10K (run only) course, you’ll run through an entire community celebration, past pageants, food vendors parades and more!


Color the Way 5k
DATE: May 15, 2016

LOCATION: Yakima Greenway

A fun run for all ages! Participants are encouraged to start the race wearing a white t-shirt, because by the end of the run you’ll be completely covered in magical color dust!

Yakima Humane Society See Spot Run 5K

DATE: May 21, 2016

LOCATION: Sherman Park

Join over 500 animal enthusiasts showing their support for homeless pets while enjoying the great outdoors - not to mention, a bit of healthy fun! Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring their well-behaved dog to run or walk the race. All dogs must be licensed and current on their vaccinations and must be leashed at all times. The race begins alongside the Fred Westberg Memorial Picnic Pavilion in Sherman Park. This year, they will be offering two courses: a 5K for runners and 1 mile course for walkers.


Sage Rat Run

DATE: May 21 & 22, 2016

LOCATION: Sunnyside, Grandview, Prosser 

A whole weekend of running!  There are five different ways to wine one of the coolest, biggest race medals in the Northwest! This weekend long running celebration has something for runners of all skill levels – 5K, 10K, 12K and even a 25K half-marathon! There are five different medals you can win, and don’t forget about the wonderful food and live music after a weekend of running!


Mural In A Day 5k

DATE: First Saturday in June

LOCATION: Toppenish

Come run through the painted city. Sponsored by the Toppenish Police Explorer Post, this is a unique opportunity to jog through Toppenish and take in all the hadn-painted murals.


Junior Gap2Gap Dash

DATE: June 4, 2016

LOCATION: Yakima Greenway

Run, bike and paddle your way through Yakima!  This down-scaled version of the Yakima Gap2Gap race features a running section (watch out for the Color Powder Paint stations), a road bike section, a boating course and even a steeple chase.  This race is designed to accommodate races of all ages, and there’s even sections designed for kids six and under!


Gap- 2-Gap

DATE: June 5, 2016 

LOCATION: All over Yakima

Test your stamina as you run, bike and paddle your way through Yakima!  Featuring a 3 mile trail run, 18 mile road bike, 8 mile off-road bike, 3 mile water course, and a 3.2 run course!  But don’t worry; you don’t have to do it alone!  Bring your friends and get a team together!


Valley of the Sun Triathlon

DATE: July 10, 2016, 9:00 a.m.

LOCATION: Yakima Greenway

Triathletes from all over will converge in Yakima for this fast-paced sprint triathlon! Starting with a 750M swim through Lake Aspen, followed by a 12 mile road bike then a 5K run through the Yakima Greenway!


Blue Moon 5k

DATE: July 22, 2016                                                                                                                                                                               

LOCATION: Yakima Greenway

Ever wondered what the Zombie Apocalypse will be like?  Well this is your chance to experience it first-hand! Walk, run or zombie shuffle your way through this nighttime 5K race in the dark!  The race is followed by a movie, food and a beer garden in Sarg Hubbard Park!                                                                                                                                                    


Pirate Plunder Adventure Race – NEW DATE!!!

DATE: July 23, 2016

LOCATION: Pirate Landing (Behind K-Mart)

Save the new date for Pirate Plunder, a 4+ mile obstacle course race combining changing terrain and 16 obstacles to test your strength, stamina, and love of mud. Climb over walls 14’ high, crawl through a 100’ long mud pit, slide down a 30’ water slide, and face many other challenges while running through fields, tires, and mud pits!
