Golf and Wine Weekend!

Golf and Wine Weekend!

Love to golf? Love wine? You’ll be hitting a hole in one with this combo! Come to the Yakima Valley for a weekend full of golf and wine. The Yakima Valley’s Apple Tree Golf Resort is known as one of the top 18-hole courses by Washington CEO Magazine, and boasts a 4-star rating by golf digest.  Built around rolling hills and a one hundred year old apple orchard, this course is made even more special by the 17th hole; a par 3 featuring a 10,000 Square foot apple-shaped island green!

Start your trip on Friday, and get in a few holes at twilight for a discounted rate, then head into Downtown Yakima for a night on the town!  Take advantage of the Stay & Play Deals offered by the Holiday Inn Downtown or the Best Western Plus Ahtanum Inn.  The Holiday Inn Downtown features its own restaurant, The 8th Street Bistro, and is blocks from the center of Yakima with restaurants, wineries, breweries/tap rooms and free concerts galore! Have dinner at one of the many downtown restaurants, go wine tasting, enjoy live music at Kana Winery, Gilbert Cellars or Antolin Cellars. Don’t feel like driving? Have dinner at the Apple Tree Gill, the restaurant is on site and open until 8pm or relax at The Slice Outdoor Lounge, open until 9pm.  Anyone in your group interested in shopping?  Choose the Best Western Plus and walk to the Valley Mall, with over 85 specialty stores and tons of dining choices nearby!

Saturday morning, start your day with breakfast at the Apple Tree Grill, or hit the course early (first tee is at 6:30 am!) and have breakfast when the grill opens at 8:00. Golf all morning and when it gets warmer opt for an afternoon of wine tasting. There are over 120 wineries to choose from in the Yakima Valley, and many of them of feature local cuisine on Saturday afternoons.  Dineen Vineyards offers stone fired pizza, Bonair Winery makes tapas, Silver Lake Winery has a BBQ, The Clore Center and Milbrandt Winery  in Prosser feature light appetizers.  There’s so many to choose from! Up for some live music?  There are plenty of wineries that offer early evening music and food for purchase, such as Jazz @ J.Bell Cellars every other Saturday night, or the summer concert series at the Gilbert Cellars Hackett Ranch (just a short drive from Apple Tree!)  And there are many more summer live music events to enjoy while you sip the local wines!  Good luck picking just one!

Sunday morning, save your appetite for the Apple Tree Grill Sunday Brunch; you will not be disappointed!  From biscuits and gravy to waffles to the made-to-order omelets; the choices are delicious! And as you get ready to leave town, take time to visit the Downtown Farmers Market, open from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, to pick up some fresh Yakima Valley fruit and produce to bring home!
